Azov is the city in southwest part of Rostov region located on the left bank of Don River. It’s situated 42 km from the regional center (Rostov-on-Don). Azov occupies 67.5 sq.km.
The most popular places of interest of Azov among city visitors are banks of fortress and Alekseevsky gates. The last one was reconstructed from wooden to stone in 1805. A glorious view of Don greets from this viewing point.
The Azov historical and archaeological memorial estate isn't less interesting. The unique archaeological exhibit items belonging to Bronze, Iron and Middle Ages, as well as household items of 19th - the beginning of 20th centuries are stored here. Besides, there is the only in the country skeleton of a trogonteri elephant which is 600 thousand years old in the museum.
Tourists also like to visit "The powder cellar of Azov fortress", a monument of military and engineering art constructed in 1799. The original Russian gun of the end of 17th century is located in front of the building.
Cossack N. Bulanov’s mill, architectural monument of beginning of 20th century, is located on Mira Street. The mill was restored in 1952.
